Hello GEO Members! We hope that everyone is staying safe and happy!

I want to start off by acknowledging the passing of a Legend, Archie Tsangarides. The Arch left this life to go catch some bigger fish in a better place…..He was a wonderful person with a big heart, a great smile and always willing to do anything for anyone. If something was happening in the Got Em On world, Archie & Wanda were there! He has left a hole in our hearts . Please continue to keep Wanda and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers.

We have decided to postpone the Lady Angler’s event until OCTOBER 10TH. We hope that in doing so, we will be able to have “The Social”. This is a major part of this fun event..

Our first points tournament is around corner on JUNE 20th. This will be the first of something new for our club. Please check our past newsletter, website, and note below for information.

Sign up will be at the Lazy Pirate, Friday, JUNE 19 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Membership committee and tournament sign up will be there as well. There will be a Captain’s letter available for anyone entering.

Please get a Captain’s letter and review it thoroughly. Board members will be there to answer any questions that you may have.

We have changed our points series from Individual to a Team series. We would like for you to have your team information turned in by June 19th. This information must be turned in before a team fishes in its first tournament. Any changes in members will have to be approved by the board. If you have any questions before hand, please don’t hesitate to contact any board member.

Changes for the Upcoming Fishing Season – Team Boat Tournaments –

Now that we know we will have a flounder season, although it will be a short one, this gives us the opportunity to do something new and what we think will make for another awesome year.

2020 has brought several challenges to the board. We are trying to accommodate the change in the recreational flounder season and the wishes and recommendations of our members. We have decided to keep the club points tournaments within the same time frame as prior years. The reduced flounder season has forced us to substitute Red Drum tournaments during our normal June and July dates.

We have added a fun new twist! This year we will have team boat point’s tournaments instead of individual anglers. Teams will be allowed to weigh a maximum of 2 fish in each tournament. Your team points will be based on the aggregate weight of your 2 fish or if a team only weighs one fish that weight will be the aggregate weight. A team can consist of 1 person or up to as many allowed on your boat. Each person on the boat will have to sign up and pay the $25 entry. You will need to designate at the first tournament registration which team boat you will be participating with. Any changes after the first tournament to boat or team members, must be approved by the tournament committee/board.

Changes to How Points are Awarded

The points will start at 500 and will decrease by 5-point increments per place. 1st 500, 2nd 495, 3rd 490, etc. All teams that sign up and have paid the entry fees but do not weigh a fish in that tournament will receive 50 points less than the last place team that weighed a fish. For example, 10 teams weighed a fish or two, the 10th place team will receive 455 points. The rest of the field that did not weigh a fish will receive 405 points.

Revised Tournament Scheduled

Due to the change in the recreational flounder season the board has decided to adjust our original schedule to allow for 3 Flounder Points tournaments. Please review the new schedule below. This will also be posted on the website and new schedules will be printed and available at the Azalea Festival Social.

The five designated Tournaments will be held at Carolina Beach on the following dates:


*             Tournament 1 (2 Largest slot Red Drum – Aggregate Weight) – Sat, June 20th

*             Tournament 2 (2 Largest slot Red Drum – Aggregate Weight)- Sat, July 18th

*             Tournament 3 (2 Largest Flounder – Aggregate Weight) – Sun, Aug 16th (Flounder Opening Day)

*             Tournament 4 (2 Largest Flounder – Aggregate Weight) – Sat, Sept 5th

*             Tournament 5 (2 Largest Flounder – Aggregate Weight) – Sat, Sept 26th (Final Flounder Week)

*             Makeup Tournament Date, if needed – Sat, Oct 10th

2020 Flounder Points Shoot Out –

In addition to our regular club points tournaments, we are adding a Flounder only shootout style points series that will piggyback on our 3 flounder points tournaments. A team fishing the regular points tournament does not have to participate in this shootout series. If the team decides to enter the shootout It will be $100 per team to enter the series. This will be paid at/or before the first flounder tournament registration. Any team entering the shootout must also be entered in the regular club points tournament. The same one or two flounder weighed for points in the regular club tournament will also be counted for the team’s shootout points. However, for each tournament, the regular tournament and the shootout will be a separate set of points. For example, a team may finish 5st in the regular club points tournament and receive 480 points and finish first in the teams signed up for the shootout and will get 500 points in that series. After the 3rd flounder tournament, the top teams, which will be based on the number of teams entered in the shootout will fish on the following day (Sunday) in the shootout championship. Each of the teams fishing on Sunday will start out even, with no points. The winner and places will be figured solely on the max 2 flounder weighed by a team on that day. All teams that qualify for the final shootout day will check out, prior to fishing, at Carolina Beach, (designation to be determined). Boat may be boarded prior to checking out.

*             Tournament 2 (2 Largest Flounder – Aggregate Weight) – Sat, Sept 5th

*             Tournament 3 (2 Largest Flounder – Aggregate Weight) – Sat, Sept 26th (Final Flounder Week)

*             Shootout (2 Largest Flounder – Aggregate Weight) – Sun, Sept 27th (Final Flounder Week)
